Build quality at Drakōn Boats starts with structure. Every boat is engineered and fabricated with a focus on stiffness, durability, and long-term use in real fishing conditions.

Material Selection

Marine-Grade Aluminium Throughout

All Drakōn boats are fabricated using corrosion-resistant marine-grade aluminium selected specifically for saltwater environments. This material provides an ideal balance of strength, durability, and weight efficiency, ensuring reliable performance without unnecessary maintenance burden.

Corrosion Resistant Materials

No wood or mild steel is used in our boat construction. Only aluminium, stainless steel, nylon, EPDM and engineering pvc foam are used.

Material Thickness Where it Matters

Hull, deck, and transom plating are specified for stiffness, impact resistance, and long-term durability. 4 mm hull and deck, 8 mm transom.

Closed-Cell Marine Flotation

Only SPX closed-cell marine flotation is used. This material does not absorb water, will not rot, and maintains buoyancy over the life of the vessel.

Integrated Structural Design

The hull, deck, bulkheads, hatches, and soles are designed as part of a single structural system. Hatches and deck divisions are not cosmetic panels but contribute to overall stiffness and load distribution across the hull.

This integrated approach improves rigidity under load and reduces long-term fatigue compared to boats where decks and hatches are treated as non-structural components.

Fully Welded Construction

Precision Fabrication Standards

Structural components are fully welded using dual-pulse MIG welding to control heat input and reduce distortion, with TIG welding applied where precision and finish are required.

Laser-cut components and jig-based assembly provide accurate fit-up and alignment, with all welds completed by qualified welders and inspected for quality.

Durable Marine Deck Covering

Decks are finished with durable marine-grade carpeting manufactured from solution-dyed polypropylene fibres.

This material offers resistance to UV exposure, moisture, and wear while maintaining grip, comfort, and appearance over time.

Heavy-Duty Trailer for Local Conditions

Trailers are specified as heavy-duty single-axle units overspecified to 1.6 t, with an unbraked configuration to reduce maintenance complexity. 

14-inch wheels and robust construction are selected to suit South African road conditions and long-distance towing.

Protective Marine Coating System

The aluminium structure is protected using a marine polyurethane coating system designed for flexibility, adhesion, and long-term exposure resistance.

The coating system is selected to resist impact damage and abrasion, limit visible scratching in normal use, and maintain finish quality in demanding marine environments.
